For the newly married

Change your name.
As simply as possible.

Six envelopes, opened one at a time. Every other guide shows you all forty steps at once. This shows you one.

You only ever see one step. The rest wait their turn. Nothing to sign up for.

How it works

You do one thing. Then the next envelope arrives.

Each envelope asks for exactly one errand and gives you everything it needs. Nothing opens before its turn.

1

Tell us your state

The license office, the fees, and where to order your certificates are different in every state. We fill those in.

2

Open one envelope

One task, what to grab, where to go, how long it takes. And a card for whoever is helping you.

3

Mark it done, open the next

Some steps need a wait. We hold the next envelope until the mail comes, so there is nothing to keep track of.

Why this exists

Three years, then three weeks.

My wife waited three years to change her name. Not because she couldn't. Because every time she looked it up, it was a wall of tasks, and she closed the tab.

So I put the steps in six envelopes and handed her one at a time. She never saw the whole list. She finished in a few weeks and said, "That was it?"

This is that. For you.

Give it

The best version is the one someone hands you.

For the partner

Print the six envelopes, seal them, and hand her the first one when you are home from the honeymoon. Every envelope has a card for the part you can do yourself.

For photographers

Put the link in your gallery delivery. It lands at the exact moment she is dreading this, from someone she already trusts. Your couples finish; you look thoughtful.

Questions
Why six?

Because that is how many there actually are once you stop counting sub-steps. Certificates, Social Security, license, passport, money, everything else. In that order, because each one needs the one before it.

Does it fill out the forms for me?

No, on purpose. The government forms are free and short, and we link straight to the official ones. What was hard was never the forms. It was looking at all of them at once.

What if I do not have a passport?

Then envelope four is already done. You skip it and enjoy a free week.

Is it really personalized?

The parts that differ by state are: which office issues your license, what to bring, the fee, any deadline, and where to order certificates. Those are filled in from your state's official pages and the links go there.

What does it cost?

Nothing while we are in preview. We are testing it with couples now.

Now you wait.

Your place is kept.

There is no deadline on this. Come back when there is a quiet twenty minutes, and the same envelope will be waiting.

That's it.
You're her.

Six envelopes. You never had to look at the whole list, and now there isn't one.

Say your name out loud once. The new one. It's yours.

If something still shows the old name a month from now, it belongs on the last envelope's list. Ten minutes, and it's gone.
